“Does it make sense to arrive at 4 a.m. and play at 5 p.m.?”

 Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, who currently joined the Cameroon national team to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, has once again been embroiled in rumors of a conflict with his country's soccer association.


Onana was the goalkeeper for the Cameroon national team at the 2022 Qatar World Cup and suffered defeat in the first group match against Switzerland.

According to the British media 'Daily Mail', coach Rigobert Song pointed out Onana's dangerous play style as the cause of her loss. ‘Daily Mail’ stated, “Song and Onana had a serious argument after the match against Switzerland, which led to Onana’s suspension from the second match against Serbia.”

Moreover, Samuel Eto'o, Cameroon's legendary striker and president of the Cameroon Football Association, did the opposite of resolving the conflict between Song and Onana. Eto'o banned Onana from accompanying the national team and ordered him to stay in a hotel. The Cameroon Football Association then released a statement saying, 'Onana has been suspended from the game due to a violation of rules. He even announced that he would leave the national team during the World Cup.

Even the Cameroonian government tried to resolve the excessive punishment, but Onana immediately left the national team and even announced his retirement from the national team in December the following month.

However, Onana eventually successfully resolved the conflict with Coach Song and rejoined the national team last September, nine months after his retirement announcement.

However, the conflict between the association and the players seems to be rising to the surface again. Global sports media 'The Athletic' said on the 21st (Korean time) that Onana missed the first match of Cameroon's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, saying, "Song, who is trying to represent the association's position, may reignite the conflict with Onana." reported.

Onana decided to participate in the competition after playing the 21st round Premier League match between his team Manchester United (Man United) and Tottenham Hotspur on the 15th. This was because he was afraid of losing his position in his team. The Cameroon Football Association also accepted Onana's concerns and decided not to call him up before the Tottenham game after reaching an agreement with Manchester United. He decided to play in the Guineas match held on the 16th.
