The popularity of Taiwanese baseball, which filled the 40,000-seat Taipei Dome, made the dome shine even brighter when it rained.

Taiwan's first dome stadium opened with great interest from fans.

South Korea lost 0-4 in the opening game against Taiwan in Group A of the '30th Asian Baseball Championship' held at Taipei Dome in Taipei, Taiwan on the 3rd. The Korean batting lineup was shut out by Taiwanese starting pitcher Xu Luoxi (Weiquan) with 10 strikeouts and no runs in 7 innings, ultimately suffering a scoreless loss.

The Asian Baseball Championship is not a tournament that receives much attention in Korea. The national team was also made up of first- to third-year players who did not have much first-team experience, as well as next year's rookie players. At 27 years old, Park Joo-chan is the oldest player and the only player born in the 1990s.

On the contrary, Taiwan formed a powerful force with many Taiwanese professional baseball star players participating. Taiwan prepared so sincerely for this tournament that even Lin Yu-min (Arizona), who had embarrassed the Korean national team at the Hangzhou Asian Games held last September, was included in the entry, but was not able to participate in the last minute.

There is a reason why Taiwan, which has always come out with a strong team in the Asian Baseball Championship, showed even more strength in this tournament. This is because this is the tournament where the first game will be held at Taipei Dome, Taiwan's first dome stadium.

Taipei Dome is a long-awaited project for Taiwanese baseball fans that took over 30 years from planning to construction. Construction began in 2006, but was repeatedly halted due to political, financial, and administrative reasons, and was finally completed only this year.

To celebrate the opening of Taipei Dome, Taiwan invited Softbank Hawks Chairman Sadaharu Oh (Jeong-chi Wang), who can be considered a Taiwanese baseball hero. Sadaharu Oh is a Japanese baseball legend who hit a total of 868 home runs in Japanese professional baseball and is the best Taiwanese baseball player in history. Sadaharu Oh, who entered Taiwan on the 1st, threw out the first pitch at the Taipei Dome opening ceremony on the 2nd, a day before the Asian Baseball Championship opened.

The opening game of the Asian Baseball Championship against Korea, the first game since the Taipei Dome opened, attracted great interest from Taiwanese fans. Taipei Dome is a large dome stadium with approximately 40,000 seats, but all tickets for the opening game were sold out within 30 minutes of going on sale, and ticket scalping was rampant. The excitement was especially hot because the opening match opponent was Korea, with which Taiwan has a rivalry.

“The match between Taiwan and Korea is the most popular matchup in Taiwan,” said Michael, head of the overseas sales team at Prostar Sports, who is in charge of producing the official ball for the Asian Baseball Championship. Moreover, because it was Taipei Dome's first game, all over 30,000 tickets were sold out within 30 minutes after ticket sales began. “Taiwanese fans’ interest is really hot,” he said.
